nights like this

It seems so romantic, nights like this. Spent cooped up in a dark room losing track of how many episodes we’ve watched. The screen projected 5 feet high onto the blank wall beside the bed. Only breaking to devour copious amounts of vegan sushi washed down with a bottle of red wine. Deciding we were bored of the screen and played a card game on the floor with some friends from down the hall. The speaker whispering a song we all know in the background. When the boys left to go to a bar and the dance party starts. Lasting until the early hours of the morning as we lose track of time grooving to Bruno Mars and swaying on the floor to Ed Sheeran. The familiar love ballads we all know too well. Laughing and twirling all around the kitchen like nothing in the world mattered but us. Having heart to hearts on the wine-stained wooden floor. Telling each other that our we shouldn’t be self-conscious of our beautiful bodies. And knowing deep down that we are perfect the way we are. Finally breaking for bed at 3:00am and calling my mom back in the states to tell her goodnight. Eating a piece of dark chocolate for good measure and taking a hot shower while a song by Fleetwood Mac played off my phone. Just managing to crawl into bed when the light from my computer screen beckoned.Begging me to stay up just a little bit longer. So I sit with a blanket over my head, scrolling through the depths of the great beyond. Reminiscing about what could capture this feeling. Spontaneously purchasing a Polaroid camera and some film in hopes that the next time a night like this rolls around, ill be able to savor it forever. When the feeling of content washes over me like a wave I close my eyes and don’t reopen them till the sun shines through my old Tuscan windows. Telling me that Sunday morning has arrived. The night before still lingers in my mind as a token of what life should be all about. Good times, good friends, and nights like this spent provoking smiles and filling hearts with love.
