the power of meditation

Last night I lay flat in my bed. Eyes closed and breathing myself softly into sleep. Meditating on the thought of deep friendships and love. When all of a sudden the loud noises of footsteps and voices crept through the thin wooden walls. Puncturing the silent oasis I was trying so desperately to enjoy. That’s when I took a breath and decided rather than sitting isolated in my room, being upset at my disturbed peace, I would join the commotion. To my surprise, I was greeted with smiling faces and warm hugs.  Everyone enjoying my rare late-night presence and happy I had come out of my cave to be part of the party.

I went to bed more content than I had planned. Having sacrificed a few extra hours of sleep for some human connection and love was worth every second. Proving to myself that what I chose to focus on becomes my reality.

This morning I awoke to a sky full of grey clouds rolling over the Tuscan hills. Deciding to bring my morning exercise routine indoors and practice some yoga to start the day. After 45 minutes of flow and stretches with Jack Johnson playing softly in my earbuds I sat upright, back against the wall and meditated for 15 minutes. Without opening my eyes I could feel the sun was shining through the window and bathing me in a pool of light. As I sat on the ground a wave of warmth washed over me, bringing 3 things to my mind: I am grateful, I am loved, I am love. I meditated on those words. Focusing on attracting them into my universe. When I opened my eyes the words had turned a cloudy morning into one of blue skies and sunshine. Making everything around me clearer and more vivid than before. I took one last deep breath and decided that today would be beautiful.
