Activism is cool

Activism.

It’s what gets my blood boiling, my heart pumping and my mind racing. I’ve honestly never felt anything more addicting and thrilling than being an activist. In some ways, I’ve always thought myself an activist in my own right. From the sense of fearlessly defending what I believe in from a young age and not taking anyone’s bull shit. Anyways, the point is, I’ve really found something that I’m passionate about. Over the past few years, I have been constantly learning and growing in regards to political, social, and personal issues. I am coming into my own about what I believe is right, wrong and where I stand in the world when it comes to life’s important and inextricably difficult topics. And with great knowledge comes great responsibility because knowing that injustice exists around you and not speaking up against it is equally as insidious as creating it. Activism is not only a right but it is also a privilege and in my eyes, a duty. For m,e the time is now. No more sitting on the sidelines, no more polite complacencies. Everyone’s voice deserves to be heard and I hold myself accountable to speak for those of less privileged that don’t have a voice to do so. I will be their voice. Desmund Tutu said “If you are neutral in situations of injustice, you have chosen the side of the oppressor.” and I have always believed strongly in that quote, especially now.
